I wanted Salvation to be so much better than it was. It had so much opportunity baked in. And at the end I was like, "that was okay" and I still feel that way. But I can't help hut be a little mad at it for squandering a set of characters and a strong storyline in an unexplored yet real part of the franchise.
I just ordered Klosterman's The Nineties...looking forward to wiggling down that Ally McBeal rabbit hole! I also loved your TV recs. for 2024. I am so ready to spark up new shows. Believe it or not there IS a cap on how much Ted Lasso you can rewatch :)
I don’t mind Salvation, probably because of Christian Bale and because they steered away from the terminator formula. The first Terminator will always be the best! We enjoyed watching all of them again with our kids.
My take is that none of the post-T2 sequels ever really knew what to do with John Connor. Which is one reason why the TV series is amazing: it really figures out how to develop him as a character.
That Lions game was wild. It's so weird to have the Lions as the best of the Detroit sports teams. If that's not proof we're living in the upside down, I don't know what is.
I keep wondering about McG's director's cut of Terminator: Salvation. It's supposed to be considerably longer, rated R for greater violence and gore, and could potentially restore some major deleted plot points. Like, the movie underwent a pretty huge overhaul behind-the-scenes: there was a whole subplot about a city where there's a resort filled with human-robot hybrids, and John Connor was originally a mythical, largely off-screen presence. Salvation would've ended with the real Connor dying and the Marcus taking his place as the new Connor.
EDIT: I think we might be talking about different cuts. I looked it up and they released a 'director's cut' that's 3 minutes longer but McG refers to a significantly longer cut (around 135 minutes based on early reports) that has an alternate ending.

Yeah, I own the director's cut, which you can easily buy. Not sure about an alternate cut.
